Black squirrels and fireflies

You might find this to be an odd title for a post, but it’s what’s been going on here in our new DC home.  We have been in DC for a little over a week and I’ve seen two things; one that I’ve never seen and one that I haven’t seen since I was a child living on the East coast.

1.  Who knew there was such a thing as black squirrels?  Well, apparently just about everyone but Bryan and I knew that if two grey squirrels mate they can produce the cutest black squirrel you’ve ever seen.  The subgroup of a squirrel was one of the coolest things I saw this week.
2.  It has been so fun seeing “lightning bugs” again.  When I was little and lived in Pennsylvania my brother and I would stay out into the late hours of the evening catching these mysterious fireflies.  I still enjoy catching them and letting them go….but it sure has brought back some fun memories this week of the ice-cream man, flashlight tag, and summer nights in the 90s!

I hope everyone else is enjoying their summer so far too!
