The Amazing Race—Singapore Style!
Hello everyone!
Bryan and I couldn’t resist joining a team this past weekend to compete in The Amazing Race—Singapore Experience! We spent our entire Sunday navigating Singapore and competing against 10 other teams for the gold. The competition took us to hawker centers, The National Library, MRT’s, buses and cabs galore, Clark Quay, The Esplanade, and SMU. We had a blast exploring more of Singapore together. Although, we didn’t really have time to “stop and smell the roses” per se…it was a day I will not soon forget. Perhaps one of the most memorable parts of the day was when we followed a clue that sounded something like this:
For the arts it was made
Like a spikey fruit it’s shaped
Use the pass that’s underground
Not the one where Starbucks is found
Let me translate….we found ourselves just under a bridge leading to The Esplanade—a world famous performing arts center. Our challenge: Our whole team had to devour a plate of durian fruit. I attached a picture so that you could see the fruit. Genevieve Koski wrote an article on Durian fruit and described it this way:
“Mother Nature is pretty unambiguous when it comes to telling interlopers which of her creations to stay away from. Pointy spikes, foul odors, unappealing appearances and/or tastes: These are just some of the ways she communicates that certain things are not to be trifled with. And yet the durian fruit, which has all of these things, is grown, harvested, and sold for the consumption and purported enjoyment of humans the world over.”
Needless to say….it was yet another day of adventure in the city state of Singapore that we call home! Lesson of the day: If you ever visit a country with Durian or an Amazing Race competition….you’ve got to dive in head first—you’ll remember it forever!
Love,
Keela
