Night Safari
On Saturday, a group of us decided to check out the Singapore Night Safari. It is the world’s first wildlife park for nocturnal animals and the world’s only night safari! We had a big fat Indian buffet to kick off the evening! The park is separate from the Singapore Zoo and is really well done. The scene is set with tiki torches, fish pedicures (tiny carp fish nibble the dead skin off your feet), tribal dancers, and a look at the animals that don’t come out during the daytime at your average zoo. Later we took a tram ride throughout the park to get up close and personal to Lions, Tigers, and Sloth Bears! We attended two shows while we were at the safari park. The first show was a tribal dance performance where they had about 10 men blowing fire, dancing and shooting darts at each other. They must have known that I’m an amazing shot because they pulled me up on stage to shoot a blow dart at one of their own. Needless to say, I shot him in the leg instead of at the balloon between his legs where I’d intended—oops! I guess I’ll have to keep honing those dart skills of mine. The second show that we attended was The Creatures of the Night Show. The show was awesome—they brought out their most unusual nocturnal animals to do an incredibly entertaining 30 minute show! The interactions between the animals, the crowd, and the zoo keepers was priceless. They pulled a python out from under one of the seats in the audience. They had a binturong run across a tight rope above our heads (Bryan was completely tickled by this guy—he thought it was so funny). There were also owls, wolves, and even some big cats! As the loving wife that I am, I volunteered my strong, handsome husband to go up on stage and hold a 75lb. python named Maggy. He wasn’t really sure what he was getting himself into at the start, but by the end he had the audience rolling with laughter, and I think he even had a little fun along the way….and he even earned me a stuffed baby snake for his bravery that I have proudly displayed in our apartment! One thing I think you’ll notice in the video is that Maggy, the python, seemed a little more interested in Bryan than he was in her…..check out the video for yourself to see if you agree. I love our date nights!
