Noel Cabangon

Keela and I had the privilege this last Saturday night of watching a free performance by Noel Cabangon, one of The Philippines’ most celebrated folk singer-songwriters.  He and his band played for over two hours in “The Glass Hall” at the Singapore Art Museum.

Almost everyone in the audience was Filipino, and most of the performance was in Tagalog, the most widely-spoken language in The Philippines.  Luckily, though, Keela and I had some Filipino friends that helped with the translations.

The video I posted above is to the song “Kanlungan,” one of Noel’s most well-known songs. It tells a story about the passage of time, the things that change that we wish would stay the same, and finding places and people that we thought we had lost.

It was a great night, and a great opportunity to learn more about Filipino culture.  There are lots of Noel Cabangon videos on YouTube, so if you like this one, there are more where that came from.
